(University of Texas at Dallas) University of Texas System researchers have pinpointed a molecule that the tuberculosis bacterium manufactures to induce the coughing that spreads the disease by triggering a pain-receptor response. Their findings illustrate that the spread of the disease might be prevented by developing a drug that inhibits production of a fatty acid called sulfolipid-1.
